Default Installing Edge Lighting

Hello, question for thoses who have installed "edge tail light" on their klx's, I tore my old one off and before i cut the wires to mate up, did any of you solder your wires from harness to light ? Im thinking if i just crimp them like with what comes with the installation kit ,it would prone to water and other elements? wires seen very small gauge, pls give me your thoughts, thanks, Chas.

I think I soldered the male/female ends to the wire and joined them that way. I used heatshrink tubing over the whole thing and then used electrical tape. No problems so far.

I used the connectors supplied. Taped each connection and then Heat shrink over top. Seems ok so far.

+ another for crimping, heat shrink tubing over that, and electrical tape on each end. No problems. I also zip tied it tup to the sub frame keep it from dangling & out of the way of mud and debris.

This is actually the first mod I have done to mine and I just did it last night. I used the supplied connectors plus I soldered the wires to the connectors. Be careful not to use too hot of an iron as you will melt the plastic on the wires. I just went with electrical tape versus heat shrink.

I cut the stock harness after the plug and soldered it onto the Edge light loom.

Easy enough to solder it back to the original should I ever need it.

Heat shrink can be complicated but I don't think electrical tape will keep moisture out for long. I recommend you get some LIQUID ELECTRICAL TAPE; auto section at WM or check the jobbers. No heat gun req'd, always the right size, really seals.

I added a little NO-Ox to the connects before taping everything up.

I trashed the connectors in the kit and crimped on better connectors. Used the liquid electrical tape to seal. I love that liquid Etape as you can stuff your crimped connections with it and it dries into hard rubber without shrinking. The original factory connections weren't exactly sealed either so don't sweat this too much.

I agree, wire size seems small but factory bulb is only like 10 watts.
