You know, I recall some older BMW's came with plastic tanks in the past...they had warranty issues with the paint bubbling up due to the vapors.

Anyway, I was wrong...AGAIN! Ha...I"m used to it!

originally they said the tanks would be Black, White, and Opaque.
Reason was they did not have the Red or Green that matched perfectly.
I would prefer Black anyway on my red klx.

When you guys say "opaque" I presume you actually mean "translucent" - because the black and white ones will actually be opaque anyway. The translucent tanks are not totally "see-through" like glass, but are see-through enough for you to see the fuel level in the tank. There seems to be a bit of a trend towards using these translucent tanks, and I am a fan of it as I hate having to take the fuel cap off and shake the tank to get an idea of how much fuel I have left.

Really glad to see there has finally been a move on these tanks. I guess my only concern now is whether there will be enough clearance between the tank and the top of an FCR35 carb, as I have had to use a couple of large washers to lift the tank above my carb with the stock tank. We'll see soon enough I guess...

Does anybody wanna guess on the capcity of those new tanks. Seeing how the IMS KLR tank is 3.2 gal, Clark is 2.8 gal, and Acebris is 3.7 gal. Maybe this new tanks for the KLX will be in the ball park of 3.0 to 3.6 gallons. It would be nice not to keep filling up every 90 miles for 1.5 gallons of fuel or 2.0 gallons if I run the KLX dry. May actually be able to see that hundred number digit on the trip-odometer.

You think 90 miles per 1.5 gallons is bad? That's 60mpg and obviously not off-road. The stock tank off road is way too small since your mpg doing actual off road riding is much much worse with this bike. I hit reserve before 50 miles. It was actually less but I forget the actual mileage. You can't even run a short course race without worrying about gas.

Makes you feel like one of those kids on an 80cc 2stroke MX bike with such limited range.

I don't mean to talk negative about the nice folks at IMS that are willing to make us this tank but, I can see why it takes them so long to get these porojects done. There having to climb around all the junk in there shop!!
After seeing those pics, I'm actually getting excited about this tank. The last couple of rides I've been on I've had to worry about running out of gas. I've been carrying two qt. sixe MSR bottles. If I had this tank, I would probably have to get a better seat too!

If you don't mean to,,, then don't!!! That shop looks clean to me,, a bit cluttered but thats what work is when you have multiple projects.
There's no crap on the floor,,,
