IMS klx250s tank has arrived
Got my Natural color yesterday. very excited!!! I was going to do the install on my red bike this weekend and post a pic- may still try, BUT my lovely wife failed to notice the coolant leak in her car and then figured she could finish her arrand with it overheating. It would have been a simple fix. She overheated it - the head cracked - engine gone. The crack is so bad oil spews out if you start the damn thing. (it to old to fix!) Oh well.... maybe
I'm liking the looks of that. I think a bigger tank is going to be one of the first things I change on mine. around here it doesn't take much to get you out somewhere where you wish you had a little more range.
I'll install the Natural on mine today. Since I have an Auxillary tank, I'll use it to run to the gas station. I'll take a permanent marker with me. After putting in 1/2 gallon, then one gallon, 1 and 1/2 gallons, 2 gallons, and 2 and 1/2 gallons, I'll mark the fuel level in the tank at each spot . That way, I won't have to guess how much fuel I have remaining.
Having 4 gallons is a big difference for this bike...NOW it's an "Adventure" bike.
Sure looks like IMS did a good job, by the way...

I forgot I put "natural" colored (or, non-colored) hand guards on my bike until I put this tank on. With this tank, and green shrouds, it really looks good!
No surprises on install...I didn't choose to drill the extra holes for the shroud flaps. My bike is a workhorse, not a garage queen.
My tank held 2.97 gallons...if the pump was calibrated correctly. Now, I have it marked every 1/2 gallon so I can have a very good idea of how much fuel I have remaining. In the desert, remaining fuel can make a big difference on what to do next, and, you don't really know how much fuel you burned the last 30 minutes at nearly WOT in 4th gear through deep sand. It's nice to have visual confirmation of fuel amount.
Very nice job, IMS!
Oh, one question for those that have done this...did you run the fuel line to the petcock UNDER the frame brace (next to the valve cover) or OVER that brace (between that brace and the IMS tank)? I'm sure it was OVER that brace when I took the stock tank off, and that's how I did it, but, it makes a substantial loop right there, and it just struck me as a bit odd.
Thanks!
