RaceGass, can you tell me the model number or ordering info for the stearing damper you have?

Another Q for the OP or anyone who may know:

Does this tank have a reserve "feature"? Or is it "on" until you run out and then it's bone dry?

Sorry for the newbie Q...

Being so close to IMS I figured I'd get mine rather soon too. I shot off an e-mail to
Chuck and was told they molded Black color first (biggest demand) and then natural. Chuck was kind enought to check my order status and told me ,since I ordered white it would be next week....Wait I didn't order white! Well, guess I fat fingered the order and, in my excitment didn't notice. They were very kind and changed my order to natural. With everyone pestering these guy they have been very helpful. I'm an IMS fan.

I can try an do that this weekend. Its real close to 3.0, I dumped a little gas in to make it to the gas station about a mile away. Its 2.9 + for sure. But I will take a better measurement. asap.

BRP
DM-BOLT kit = Scotts bar clamp p/n 903419, Bolt on tower p/n FBD-5578
Scotts stabilizer (off road version). Info off the invoice from BRP.

The IMS uses the same arrangement thats on the stock tank. So you keep the reserve function. You use the stock tanks brass fittings, petcock &fuel lines.

I've ran my Acerbis (from the new run, delivered a few months ago) dry once so far. Was carrying a 1.5 L fuel bottle, poured it in, and went a few miles to the nearest gas station and put in 3.85 gallons, not quite filling it all the way up. Not bad for a "3.7-gallon" tank. I must do this a couple more times though to be confident of the actual capacity. This puts me at around 200 mile range .

Differences?

The acerbis carries fuel in the molded in radiator shrouds, has .7 gallons more capacity, takes afew more mods to work on the stock 09 klx.

The new IMS fits like a glove, uses the stock radiator shrouds, looks great (some think the acerbis isn't pleasing to the eye), the seat fits perfectly (not so with the acerbis on the 09 klx), and doesn't block the choke on the cvk carb.

Did IMS fix the defect that caused the tank re-call? I probably missed that.

and it only comes in Kaw Green. No other color options. Carrying fuel in the shrouds puts the weight down low, which I like. A lockable cap is available. The choke isn't totally blocked, just filed off a portion of the circular handle (may be different for '09+?). Sometimes there is a long wait for back order (I had to wait about 8 months for delivery). Here's a pic of it out of the box below. I'm putting a Loon Lake Ride Report up here soon where you'll see some pics of it on bike.

There's a write up on the '09+ install mods at justgastanks.com
I also have unibiker rad guards, and the combination added to fitment issue...had to grind part of the unibiker guard away. No biggie. I like the looks of the IMS better, but where I want to ride, 150 to 200 miles before a re-fuel is essential. Lots of "desert tanks" as they are called around these parts .

Are you referring to the tack weld on the original tanks that were sometimes leaking? I guess you could say ANY aftermarket tank fixes that defect, as long as the aftermarket tank isn't leaking.
