Default I have the power!!

Put the slip-on on this weekend and re jetted the carb as per KLXster's info.

The bike actually makes power past 6.5k rpm now!! It feels like it just wants to keep going!

I can basically ride around on single track in second gear all day with a bit of clutch work - dat low end... and first gear feels like cheating.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone in the community who pitched with their testing, feedback, and mod information that gets shared on these forums. Thanks to this community, my ho-hum putt putt trail bike is now a proper dirk bike.

How long can I last until I feel the need for a 351? hmmmm...

-----------

Set up a FMF Q4 (took the restrictor out, still surprisingly quiet). DJ138, and the #40 pilot jet is on back order

A weird quirk with the needle/slide that fixed itself after we took the carb out the second time (no idea what went wrong, just died at 3k rpm no matter what) and we were rocking.

As per KLXster's comments, I think I'm in need of a bigger pilot jet. As cool as the decel popping sounds, it's going to get old really fast. I'm hoping it will fix the on-off-on throttle bog on the hills. It's fine if I stay on the gas, but if I let off and go back on heavy, there's a hesitation that takes a split second to clear up. Stock PJ is about 3 turns out right now. What do you guys think?

What notch did you put the needle clip on - 3rd down or 4th ? And you are running lidless - right?

I have thought the same thing but I am starting to think that a bump in static compression ratio will be my first biggish mod. 2015 KX250F has a CR of 13.8:1. Wonder if that piston would fit the KLX? Al little head work and cams. But will that motor last longer than a 351?

Glad you have found the hidden power in our little bikes.

Should have included that, running at 3n. And running lidless, yes.

I once caught a mention on one mag's shop prepared bigger bore KLX that the shop's testing showed too high a C.R. pushed the valves into the head or valve seat too quick on their bike.

BUt I think BB has been running over 12:1-don't know if he's replacing the valve seats first
