Exactly! Aliens are actually in control of meteorite falls, and they do in fact send them to deserts and other wide open locations so people will find them and take them home. Meteorites are really sophisticated surveillance devices. From there, alien headquarters can monitor human activity very closely so they can plan more precisely for their impending attack on earth. I saw this on the internet, so it's got to be true.

But seriously, I've noticed that those Meteorite Men on the Science channel can find meteorites just about anywhere they fall. The do say that desert and other open venues yield more success when you can actually see a bit of what you're searching for.

I too am curious on how a meteorite is "contaminated" by rain.

As if almost burning up on earth entry and passing through untold amounts of water vapor before hitting the ground yields a "pristine" artifact...

The water gets into the battery compartment, thereby interfering with the signal the aliens monitor.

It has to do with living organisms in the rain being absorbed into the meteorite thus contaminating it. Only 3 out of about 50 found so far were found before a day of rain. So the first 3, mine included, are considerably more valuable because they aren't tainted.
