BTW - what exactly is "hunting for meteorites"??? That's not code-speak for "angry b*tch in a car" is it?

Ha ha, no. I'm an amateur collector. About a month ago one landed nearby so I've been going up hunting for fragments. I found one of the first meteorites 2-days later.

That is cool. Not from this earth!!! kinda crazy. How big is it. seems like they would have some real value. ??

That's pretty awesome. Finding space rocks must be pretty exciting. Hope you find more rocks (and fewer crazy women) on your next hunt.

It weights 4.95 grams and is 2.2 cm long. The value is hard to quantify since mine was recovered before a day of rain that tainted all the others discovered afterwards. Most are going for over a $1,000 a gram.

I just had a CT (cat) scan done by the American Museum of Natural History. It's posted on my FB page, hopefully you can see it here.

I got interested in meterites last year. Did you find them in the path of meterior fall last year in CA?
Is there somewhere that lists the latest falls locations?
I am out in the desert a lot, I think they would be easy to find if you were in a fall area.

This one fell last month on April 22 over Lotus, CA by Placerville. It's called the Sutter's Mill Meteorite.

Again,,,,, Cool! Cat scan = cool what does rain do to a meteorite? contaminate?
Sounds like a tough gig hunting for meteorites.
