Default Husqvarna TR 650 Terra

Hi all,

In my state of Western Australia, our motor cycle licensing restricted class will changeover from a 250cc to a power to weight system (LAMS) in the new year.

What do you think of this bike which is a lower spec BMW G 650 GS Sertão? Pretty good value for $10K rideaway; no price comparisons between bike pricing US vs. Aust Cheers

They are getting good reviews. Basically a modern KLR650 for $500 more, a true 50/50 bike. Kind of heavy (410lbs) but good power and solid build quality. Good info here: TR650 | Cafe Husky

Not 50/50 but put some motard tyres on and it'll be serious fun on a graded road. Oh yeah, only $6500 too, lands in march in 390cc (44 horse), already here in 200cc (25 horse) at 6K even.

The Duke 125 and 200 is made in India, not a "real" KTM. Not sure about the 390. That is why the price is so low. Lots of companies seem to be going to 3rd world manufactures including the Thailand made KLX.

I like the 200. I have considered getting one.

I came very close to buying this little cracker some months ago, a new Husqvarna 630 smr. It didn't happen because BMW in their infinite wisdom decided to discontinue this model after a short run to concentrate on the TR650. For me the 630 was a better bike than the Terra & a way cheaper option than a KTM in the Thai import market!

I hope BMW don't start changing all the models to look & weigh the same as their bikes. A Husky should be a Husky.

I took a short test ride on a TR650 and came away a bit disapointed. I expected it to have more low end than it did. The other disapointment is the weight. Imo, a 400+ lbs. bike should at least have a twin cylinder engine.

...or at least a big single with lots of power. I think this is an area where KTM kicks BMW's tail in all of these smaller categories. Granted, KTM has had more time and effort in this area. With the acquisition of Husky, perhaps this category will get more competitive from BMW.

I notice Husky is showing quite well in the currently running Dakar. Performance-wise they're at least as good as KTM, but they haven't developed the level of Dakar necessary reliability that KTM has developed over many years.
