You can see the "brush guards," Barkbusters on the handlebars. Worth every penny. You'll learn.

FK,

First off, welcome aboard. Lots of good stuff here.

+many on the handguards, probably the most used piece of safety equipment for anyone who rides off road. Might as well mosey over to the RockyMountainATV website and check out their selection. I have the Tusk D-Flex guards myself (around $60) but there are lots of other brands available. Just get 'em.

My one piece of advice: When riding on the road consider yourself to be invisible, because to most drivers you most certainly are. Even when you make eye contact with another driver your position in traffic is not secure, so it's up to you to avoid bad spots. It's almost impossible to ride "too safe".

Now get out in the dirt and practice, practice, practice. It's a blast!

Wow you guys are great! Thanks for all the info and advise so far!!

I have my list and can't wait to check all this stuff out and start putting it together. Saw a used '09 250s (red) at a dealer in alabama for 3800. Claimed never in dirt. (pics looked like new) 1600 miles. Too bad I'm in Pa. Can't find any used ones around here except one that has 36 miles on it but the price is only 200 less than new. Looks like I'll be getting a new one.

You can also apply that to wives. Sometimes new is good.

And to repeat what Xerxes advised. . . . when out riding in traffic. . . ALWAYS remember that you are invisible to others and ALWAYS be looking for a way out of a jam. SITUATIONAL AWARENESS is your friend!
