Default Hi - And some new guy quesions

First let me start out by saying hi to everyone since this is my first post!!
Glad to have found this site!

I am likely getting a KLX 250s for my first bike. (Soon!)

I have a couple questions if you don't mind.

I plan on taking some courses for safety and technique because that is very important to me but I obviously can't wait to learn some "things they won't teach you" LOL... i.e.- I am a 35 yr old kid and can't wait to learn how to wheelie! LOL

--Is this bike a good choice for a first timer?
--What is a fair price I should expect to pay for a new one (red)? (my local dealer lists them at 5k even.)
--What else do I really need to get besides the bike and a good fitting helmet?
--If you could give me one piece of advise... What would it be?
--Anyone close to Zip 17340 that would want to hit the trails?

Thanks! Looking forward to getting responses to my first post!

Hey bro welcome to KF,, Red is by far the fastest one lol,,,

Is this bike a good first timer? Yes definatly
I paid 5200.00 taxes tag and helmet so 5 g's is about right for a new one
Wheelies take some effort but not that much,,, Carb Jetting, Gearing (Sprockets), and Exhaust really seems to open the bike up some...

Advice, Get the suspension set up for your weight and the way you will be riding.
(but of course you will need to ride it to find your way of riding lol)

all and all though, I really love mine, and the others here love theres, They are great bikes and made to take abuse,,,

More Advice. Just ride the thing. During break in period just fluxuate the RPM's.. The book says keep it under 4k but thats impossible haha, not really but really slow.. Just ride it and dont hold a steady RPM during break in.. thats about it

Welcome to KF...

oh what part of PA you at,, Im in Central WV

I don't know what your riding style is, but I am very clumbsy and like to take risks. I personally would reccomend some over the calf boots, knee guards, and elbow guards.

As for bike protection, I would reccomend you purchase a pair of MSR mirrors (about $24), a skid plate, and some hand guards. The hand guards first.

I'm all about protection LOL!

Welcome to the site! I've only got about 47 miles on my bike so I'm pretty new too. You'll love the bike, it's pretty amazing. I love riding it (all 47 miles so far...) and I get tons of compliments even though it's totally stock (for now). I paid $4999 OTD and then got a $250 rebate from Kawasaki. I bought it in NH where there is no tax but later had to pay tax when I registered it in Maine so your dealer's price seems to be about right.

Always wear gloves. New fingers cost $$$$ and take years to grow back... Hold on, they never grow back. Always wear gloves.

advice: get solid brushguards for your bars before you even buy the bike. if you take it off road i can promise you they will pay for themselves many times over!!

Thanks for all the comments so far guys!

JRock420 -Thanks for all the info. Is setting the the suspension something I do or does the dealer do it before delivery? The closest town to me that you may have heard of is Gettysburg, Pa. That's about 10 minutes from me. Does that give you an idea? i think your a good ways away from me. (shame)

deej - Thanks, Glad to be here!

Xplosivo1 - We would get along just fine! lol. I'm all about staying safe. But have fun getting crazy sometimes. (as long as it's only my own injury on the line ) I'll add that stuff to the list.

armycopter - My plan is the same as yours.... Keep it stock until I get a little experience with it under my belt and then wake it up with some mods.

Keep the comments coming guys. I really appreciate it!
Can't wait to get one! Just trying to decide if i should go new or Very Slightly used. I have to have an 09 though. I love the styling.
