ORIGINAL: RIKLX250S

Well from what I am hearing the power band is wider and stronger from the factory. I would need to give it a seat of the pants dynotest, If that IS the case that alone would warrant the xtra$ cause by the time you put on a pipe, jet carbs, air box altering, and sprockets you are pretty close. As for fi from what the yamaha service guys at my kawi dealership say that there is more that can be done with it as they do on street bikes with playing with the programing which I am sure some aftermarkets will come up with. Suspenision fully adjustable in front I would love. I am no pro but the front suspension is weak on my klx.Digital display nice, Wave rotors nice. And I don't think its all that bad looking either. IMO Iam still not going to part with my green machine. Has anyone put the yami to the test in the woods with there Klx?
If anything, the KLX's powerband is wider out of the box (they both put out a max of 30 hp at the crank, so the WR is NOT "stronger"). The KLX does 30 HP at 8000 RPM, while the WR does 30 HP 11000 RPM.

BTW, a powercomander unit, which is what you'd need to retune an Fi bike, will run you 300+ USD.

And imo, wave rotors are a DETRIMENT! Sure, they look nice, but i'd much rather have a nice, smooth, and fat *** contact area to give that extra bite to the brakes, than that extra "bling" factor to show off in the pits.

The wave rotor concept isn't about "bling factor," but naturally companies will vary the shapes and colors to get the most "bling" out of them. They are designedso thatthe pads are at maximum bite when they cross each wave shape in the rotor. This results in up to 30% more stopping powerthanthe same size of flatrotor. Additionally, theydissapate heat better, so they areless proneto warping. The disadvantage to a wave rotor is thatyour pads will wear outquicker.

exactly, I'll add too that they clean themselves better too. but it makes me wonder too just how much of an advantage they really are off-road since Husqvarna, the maker of arguably the best dirt bikes in the world, still fits solid non vented discs to it's enduro bikes.

also, one more thing- sinkoman, there is NO WAY a stock KLX makes 30 horse at the crank, absolutely no way. that would mean it loses nearly 50% when it reaches the rear wheel. I think you'd be okay to say that it makes around 22 at thecrank stock. if it had 30 stock horsepowerat the crank, no one on here would be buying pipes, sprockets, or jets. that would translate to around 25 at the rear wheel.people are happy to see 23 after a pipe/jet mod around here. pretty sad I know.[X(]

Actually, they are pulling that crank HP figure from the US service manual, under earlier models, but no figureis listed for our plugged up 'H6/H7' series (KLX250S). Since ours is the same bore and stroke, same carb, cams etc it's natural to assume the figures are close. In japan, the HPfor the 250Sis advertised at 28, but that would have to bebest case scenario on a COLD day and probably rounded-up

There will also bedifferent HP outputs from engine to engine comingstraight from the factory due to variation inherent in the manufacturing process. They probably kept testing until they got the 'pick of the litter.'

I don't think they're out yet. And the new KLX has digital display, wave rotors. Your KLX has compression adjustment for front suspension as well, it's on the bottom of the fork under a rubber dust cap. Maybe you're wanting preload adjustability. I just think it's good to see more DS bikes enter the market. It will be an interesting next year.
I definitely prefer Analog guages over digital. Wave rotors are a nice improvement though.

28 horses seems pretty outrageous as well. a loss of 10-15% is assumed as it goes to the back wheel. since dirtbiketelevision is saying that the bike only gets 16 horse in stock trim, one has to assume that even 22 is pushing it at thecrank in plugged up trim. this is why this forum is so important, so us as owners and past owners like myself who unplugged the bike and made it run to it's maximum potential with otherwise stock components, can spread the word of how capable the bike is with a mere investment of time and money. the bike is just crap in oem running form, it HAS no power.
