What happens if you either wait for a couple of years or don't re-pack at all? What is the packing for anyway? I have the Muzzy, and I know I have a hundred hours on it. I guess I'm not really a fan of having to do something to a pipe I already spent too much money on. Any ideas?

+1. I'm kind of thinking that unless I have to repack it for some reason, I'm just not gonna.

OK.. this is the way i see it... i spent over $400 for this exhaust, if spending 20$ a year on new packing is going to help it last longer.. ill do it... i dont know about you guys but spending the 20$ is worth extending the life of the pipe... the big gun sales guy i bought it off of says that it will last forever if you repack regularly... so for the 20$ i think ill do it.... but let me know how your pipe is doing in 5 years guys without ever repacking.... good test... lol... just being a smart ***.. lol...

EMS, I agree totally with that. I am all for throwing a little $ after something to preserve the investment. The only thing is, I don't know why repacking it will make the pipe last longer. I think someone already asked it, but what does the packing actually do. If it insulates the shell, then I can see value in repacking it. If it just makes things more muffled, then I would only repack if it the pipe starts to be too loud.

ah... whats the muffler actually made of then is the next question... is the core just regular steel that will rust? or stainless? the end cap is alum.... whats the other end of the muffler made out of... i know that exhaust generate condensation, at least on cars they do... so i would think that the packing could get wet and maybe deteriorate the metal... besides alum, and stainless.... so what is it made out of... and yea i like my pipe loud... so making it more quiet doesnt do anything for me....

Good responses.

That's good enough for me. I will repack, but not too often. I guess I will take a look inside my Muzzy @ about 5K or 6K miles. If it looks like it needs it, I will do it.
