I've got a 3 bedroom ranch and I only use 1. I was considering renting out one of the bedrooms, with common use of the bathroom, kitchen, living room etc.


Anybody have a similar arrangement?

thoughts? suggestions?

dont do it, unless it is a BEST friend that you could live with and completetly get along with.

 

renting to friends can backfire bigtime. sometimes they expect you to be more lenient on them and take advantage of you sometimes you lose a friend.

renting is fine, do interviews, make it clear that you don't want to be a dick about it but you have a zero tolerance for BS policy. they pay the rent on time, don't fk up the house, don't eat your food before asking, and are curtious and considerate then its all good. otherwise they get one warning, and then an eviction to the curb.

 

write a contract

 

+1 and check out some landlord law books from the libary it'll help

 

+1 in some places once they have mail coming to your house you cant kick them out for at least 30 days

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I def. need to read up on the legal aspects of renting, have a contract drawn up and have my lawyer look it over.


I thought about renting to some of my friends, but the only one who is really interested is one of the last people i would want to live with. go figure.
