Hard start 351 and tm36-68

When did you last check your valve lash?

I had similar symptoms on my TW a few years ago. Jacked with the carb forever and finally found that the intake valve was out of adjustment. Set the valves and then ran like a champ.

I checked the valves when I did the 351 2 weeks ago, all in spec... Good call tho, I think I'm gonna break her open and check the timing again, so I'll recheck the valves...

I only use the choke in very cold conditions. I just whack the throttle open, this activates the accelerator pump, then it usually starts right up.

So open it then close, then starter, or open and start with throttle open?

( I blame pain meds if that made no sense at all )

Open the throttle wide with the bike off then close the throttle. This shoots some gas into the carb from the AP. Mine will usually start with the throttle closed after that. The squirt from the AP richens it up.


If it's quite cold out, less than 50 degrees, I use the choke. It doesn't really need it much when it's warmer than that.

Your pilot screw is suppose to be adj while running, come on get with it!

!
