Thanks guys. I'm looking into the 1 1/8 that taper to 7/8. Not sure they taper in time to fit all the mirror and turn signal mounts. I'm gonna take mine off tonight and go to the local cycle shop and compare bars and bends, I want to go about an inch higher. Sounds from some of you I'll have the chance to try out a few different sets over the years !

What are the advantages of the 1 1/8 taper, do they bend somewhere else (mine torqued right at the mount) ?

I run 7/8" Renthal bars with aluminum Acerbis bark busters. The combination is extremely strong but some of the voice on the forum is quite correct about making these areas to stiff.

I myself have not done it but I've seen quite a few times where between aftermarket bars and bark busters in the wrong wreck provide enough support for the handblebars that they will begin bending or damaging the upper tripple clamp instead. Forks normally don't get damaged.., but you begin to toss the upper tripple.

That said, Renthal is an old favorite of mine and quite solid, but as many say anything aftermarket will be substantially better then stock. The stock handlebars on the KLX are the weakest I've ever owned and originally bent mine in a simple tip-over. :: chuckles ::

I never bent my stock bars but they were a pain to fit the Bark Busters too. I have a set of Renthals on my bike now

I have the pro-taper 7/8" in KX-HI bend and love them. You should upgrade to some nice gel grips too...makes riding much more comfortable. One of my favorite mods.

Man, too many decisions. No doubt those cheap Moose bars are no different than the stockers. Talked to two 'kids' behind the counter in their early 20s who motocross and enduro. They both swore by just about any of the aluminum 1 1/8 bars, especially the Renthal and T2.....said it was more up to how much I wanted to spend and said the biggest thing I would notice is the vibration damping and feedback. The one was my height and general buildand loved the CR high bend. So......I ended up with the Tag T2Handlebar Kit (CR HI)that comes with the riser/adapters. They also agreed to go with a firm or medium (I did) Renthal diamond grip. They said the feedback was a lot better and I didn't need the gel grips with the good bar. I asked if the Acerbis mounts would work and found a set of the inside mounts on their wall with new bar inserts and the inside clamps that are made for the taper area of 1/1/8 bars. I'm glad I thought of it, would have been a serious bummer to buy the bar and not be able to mount the Acerbis without serious modification (I would have made it work, but prefer the right parts!). That kit is another $31 but I boogered the inside grip parts getting them out past that stupid ring that's welded inside on the end (not the weight that needed removed, just the ring that was left), so that money was gone either way.

ANYWAYS, between that coming in next Tuesday and my 2.7 Clarke tank hopefully arriving the same time, next week should be like Christmas !!!!

I put a set of cheap moose steel bars on my KX and bent them overjumping a double. I DIDNT FALL! Just the compression was enough to do it. So I went to a set of cheap Moose Aluminum (50 bucks) and were pretty good for the money. Now I run a Fasst Flexx bar and will never switch again! EVER!
