What was required for the test?
Hey Gerry, I took mine here in NC so I assume yours would be the same. They set up a half-dozen or so cones seperated 10 feet or so apart, not sure exact distance, might have been closer. There are several "skills" tests you do involving the cones from weaving in and out, turning at the end without placing a foot down, and weaving back. Another test is to start at one end, accelerate to 2nd or 3rd gear, just before the next to last cone, signal a turn both with the light and hand signal, and do the turn and return. Also, accelerate toward the officer and when they give the signal, do a panic stop - safely, of course. Another they had me do was to ride at constant pace, kill the engine, restart and continue - simulating a stall at a stop light or slow moving traffic.

It was a piece of cake. It really felt like cheating on the KTM as it would be on the KLX. Hell, you can practically balance in place on one of these bikes and the figure eights through the cones, the turns, the panic stops, were not hard. When I did mine, there was a guy on a scooter, and two other guys on giant Harleys. The scooter guy nearly did a stoppie on the panic stop - lol, but he passed. One of the Harley guys did fine, but the other ran over every other cone while weaving and missed a few cones when he did his turns. I don't know if he passed or not - if he did, I don't see how.

Check your local DMV where they give the test, they probably have a section of the parking lot with painted dots on it where they place the cones. You can practice there on an off-day if you want to get an idea of what it is like before you go for the test. Also, the DMV should have a study manual for the written test and in the back shows the skills test course layout and a description of the moving tests.
