after lurking and getting advise from yoiu good people for a couple weeks- and debatting long and hard between DRZ400 and KLX250 - I went with the kawi- mainly for less weight, less hight and non- exposed metal gas tank that I knew would be trashed quickly.. overall first impressions are good- HOWEVER it is true- she is underpowered- was expecting a little more- but I think the mods I have heard here should make her just fine for my purposes...

the manual that came with it says KLX250 "H" ??? is this correct?? I thought it was an "S" any thouhts??

also I saw my first KLX300 last night- why no fan on that one, but on the 250?? why do you think kawi made the 250 and the 300 - why not have just made the 300 street legal??? any insider info?? just curious

 

Not for cetain, but I think the "H" is from the canadian model but the same bike. Coiuld be 100% wrong though............

 

It's just the "official" model number.... KLX250H6F for the 2006... I'd imagine the 2007 is KLX250H7F..??
It probably says that on your frame, by the head tube.

 

The 300 doesn't have a fan as itsconsidered an offroad/trail bike whereas the 250 being on the street is intended to meet the needs of stop and go traffic on hot sunny days. While I've never had my fan kick on in town it has a few times slogging through a few mudholes. The 300 is intended to be moving all the time and doesn't require slipping the clutch so much as its geared something silly like 13-52 or 14-52 from the factory.

 

I think I may have started the "Canadian Model" rumor when I ran into a problem with my Big Gun exhaust not fitting, but I was wrong about that - The KLX250H6F and KLX250S are the same thing.

Apparently, the KLX250H6F is like Jason said, the "official" model designation. KLX250S is just the marketing designation.

 

My D-tracker is the the KLX250H6M and I suppose the 2007 model will be H7M. I forgot what the designation for the oldKLX250R was and don't have my service manuals with me.
