Default Fsw shift star???

I have installed the FSW shift star on my 2006 KLX250s. I remember someone mentioning that the neutral indicator was out of line with the shift star from FSW and that I was goign to have some potential issues with idleing/ starting.

I remember hearing that I would have to disconnect teh kickstand indicator??? I have looked and I can not fin any type of wiring that runs to my kick-stand. CAn someone pleae let me know where this is at??

Has anyone else done this mod? What problems did you have?

ALSO, what if anythign else am I going t need to do to make sure I am not going to have an problems with starting in any gear and idling in any gear?

Your help is greatly appreciated...

Thank you,
MAXX

The neutral switch, side stand switch and clutch switch all work together to stop the bike starting or running, in gear, with the stand down unless the clutch is pulled in.
Stand down in gear and clutch out. It won't start.
Let the clutch out whilst in gear and the stand down. It will stall.
It's a safety thing so naturally I disconnected everything, and it will start when ever I push the start button and will not stall should I put the stand down whilst in gear and the clutch is not disengaged.
For off road use, IMHO, it's the only way to go.
You just need to be careful.
Doing a left turn with the stand down has the potential to hurt.

The side stand switch is mounted to the frame just above and behind the side stand pivot point. It's quite a big switch so if you can't see it, it has probably already been removed.
Just pull it off, trace the wires back under the seat, pull out both connectors and re-connect the two left on the harness.
Now the bike will operate as if the stand is up.

I didn't know that the FSW shift star effects the nuetral switch but it makes sense that it might. If that is the case you will need to do the above and probably the clutch switch as well.
Your nuetral light won't work either.

BTW, I thought kawasaki fixed the sift star issue on later models so swapping it for the FSW unit was not required.

My bike is an 06 and it definitley had the false second issue. The fix, from what I was told is the shift star mod. I have a lot of mods in progress right now so I havnt had a chance to ride her since installing but when shifting by hand the shifts feel a lot more firm and there is definitely a more positive engagement feeling.

It's an easy fix. I didn't even replace it. I took a grinder to the star and made the points more pointy. originally the points were more rounded which I think was the issue.

Does the star shifter help the way the bike shifts. I thought better oil would help but mine it still shifts like an old mack truck. Especially trying to find first from neutral.

Okay...I think i may know what issues you guys are having....I have had (on occasion) the bike slip into neutral when attempting to shift from 1st into second (usually when I am trying to snap the front wheel up). Sometimes the bike is a tad stubborn to get into 1st as well, but I never really thought much about it. Are both of these issues fixed when the shift star is rpaced?....If so, can someone provide me with the part number and manufacturer of the shift star of choice? (will my neutral indicator still work with it?)

Thanks guys....
