Here is THE thread to check out if you want to do some mods. You can also read up on removing the smog stuff while you're working on the carb:

If you did the slip-on but no other mods, it will probably just lean out a bit. I keep hearing that the KLX runs lean from the factory, but mine was running rich. Dunno if it is the 5k elevation or what, but the adjustment screw is still capped. I just put in a UNI filter and a KDX snorkel and things seem much smoother. I'll definitely rejet if I put on a different exhaust- it's the right way to get more power, along with intake mods.

follow these instructions and you'll be home free. btw, the DJ kit for the 300 will work with the 250 as well. I believe the needle in the 300 kit is more performance oriented as DJ has documented through their website that the 300 kit power increase is more in the 300 than the 250 kit increase. take your pick though. the 300 shares the same exact engine sans a larger bore, but the carbs are identical 34mm CV's. good luck.

It's just a vessel for adding fuel and air to you engine. Very few moving parts unlike the rest of your engine. Get stuck in. Get to know your bike. The hardest part about tuning the carb' on a KLX250 is getting it out of the bike. LOL. Once it's out, it's like A B C.

ok i got a couple questions, do you guys mark your fuel lines and stuff or do you just know how to put it back together( im real good at takin things apart but get lost sometimes when puttin them back together). Do you have any links to good jet kits? keep it comin guys i appreciate the help.

Get a magnetic tray. Stick it to the bike, and when you remove a bolt/screw, put it in the tray. You can re-jet using the OE Keihin jets or buy a complete kit from people like Dynojet of FMF. The later costs more but gives you more options for the main jet.
