In a recent edition of Dirt Bike Mag, they modded a 2012 KLX. They just added a DG silencer to the stock header. Fairly low cost

I considered going with the DG for mine. They look good, and they are inexpensive. Problem is; they are right up there with the loudest of the loud when it comes to dB output.

That's why I settled on the DEP for mine. It's as quiet as a Q4, but it doesn't fry the turn signal ('09 KLX) like the Q4 does.

Im anxious to hear the DG with sound reducer insert in it. Ive never actually spoke with anyone who runs one.

i've ran my klx with stock.....fmf q4 for few thousand miles (quietest and my blinkers didn't melt)....now running with hmf for few thousand miles....i didn't feel any changes in vibrations...hmf is fairly quiet at idle, but definitely gives a nice roar at wot....ear is the only thing that suffered for me...

airbox modification is what causes annoying vibrations...snorkel removed will cause vibrations...lid off will cause even more vibrations....higher flow air filter will also increase vibrations...i got annoyed and closed up the air box, and added the kdx snorkel to keep my moto vibration free....15t front to reduce high rpm vibrations for commutes and long rides...

i have a quite core silencer for my hmf...yes, it reduces the noise dramatically...but, it's basically a piece of metal that reduces/restricts and outlet...a/f adjustments are necessary if you want to put it on and take off....for my moto, i actually need to rejet to a smaller jet to get it running properly....hence, my hmf quiet core is never used and sitting in my extra parts basket....

Just for the record... I thought I'd add a comment since I bought your used FMF Q4.

Sound... I love it, its not too loud and the "loud" you do get from it is of a lower note. Unlike the TBR in my opinion.

Blinker Issue... Ahnh, this thing may have worked flawlessly for you and that's just great. But it honestly does have me a little worried, I have just over a thousand miles on the new exhaust now and I have the tiniest bubble on the bottom of my blinker from where it got a little too hot one day apparently. I mean maybe it will stay like this... maybe not. If it does ever melt it then I will deal with the issue then; since I have a few extra blinkers from the LED hand guard blinker mod I did recently.

Also... I definitely fiddled a lot with the exhaust then I installed it; so I know its as "low" as it can be from the blinker. I seen somewhere back on the forum a gentleman made a bracket that dropped the Q4 down a bit out of the way from the blinker, honestly like a 1/2" would probably make all the difference between melting the blinker and never harming it.

san francisco doesn't get too hot, so maybe the melting blinkers is a combination of hot weather and exhaust?

Hey LikesToThump - if that Q4 doesn't work out... I'm looking for a nice used Q4. I have a 2007 with the higher signals so the clearance isn't an issue for me.

If you want to sell it let me know.

Maybe the day I believe it must have happened was over blessing of the bikes weekend. I put around 300miles on it that Sunday, and the average temperature was like 92ish degrees out... but not much stop and go traffic at all so go figure.

The melt bubble on the bottom of the blinker is fricken tiny, so at this point I am not worrying about it.

Sorry, I love the exhaust... Just annoying that FMF would put out a sh*t design bracket with it.

Thanks anyways.
