Finally I got roundtoit. Part deaux
For two years I've said that I was going to design and fabricate a skid plate for the KLX. I waited to see if anyone was going to build one that I thought worthy of my bike. But it hasn't happened.
Well, since I've got my bike apart, just installed the KK 331 kit and cams, and waiting on the Clarke tank before I get it back together, I decided to take the time and build that promised skid plate.
This is part one. Last night I started with some 3/16 aluminum for the bottom and 1/8 for the sides. Made some cardboard templates and went to work. Once I was happy with the bottom template, I cut my aluminum plate. Made some rough guesses as to how I wanted the sides to come out and cut those out of some scrap 1/8".
I then decided where the bends needed to be and commenced to pressing some smooth bends in the bottom plate.

Then I shaped the right side to prtect the water pump and hoses but not interfere with the brake.

That's as far as I got last night.
Stay tuned for fitting the left side and welding it all together. Then mounting it with the stock mounts and finishing it off.

Gary, that's some nice fab work. Keep it coming! I'll inspect your craftmanship first hand in March! And I'll give the guys a full (read "Honest") report. Better not grind those welds or I'll tell...

Send a pic of your efforts to some of the big manufacturers and show them how it's done! That looks way better than my MSR plate, really conforms to the shape of the frame, great looking work.
I love doing stuff like that, but the big setback is I do not know how to weld.[:@]
