Engine noise I'm noticing under acceleration

I agree. With stock exhaust the engine is very mechanical sounding. I believe you are fine. All I hear is normal valve train and intake noise.

engine noise
I am reading lots of good suggestions to try. I had the same problem on my 2012 KLX250S with 5000 miles showing. Under acceleration I had a noise that sounded exactly like plastic vibrating on metal. I removed everything I could and it was still there. Turned out it was the front sprocket with some wear. I am changing both sprockets and chain this week. I ordered the sun sprockets and chain from e-bay. I have used these before am satisfied with their use. Every time I rode my bike the noise got progressively worse until I was afraid something was ready to fall off. Now to change the subject just a little bit, I added the ground wire and now my high speed miss is gone and it feels like I have more mid range power.

I have that exact sound !!!
New owner of a 07 KLX250S with 4k miles. During a ride around the hood earlier tonight I noticed a noise that sounded a bit odd. It's a kind of rattle or light knock when the bike is under hard acceleration. I've experienced ping/detonation on several bikes but this doesn't sound the same. The engine almost sounds like a diesel when the noise occurs.
Bike is mostly stock. It has a K&N air filter, stock carb & exhaust. As far as I know a jet kit wasn't installed.
What could the noise be if not ping?

*correction* I looked up what I meant to say.... its the air suction vavle on the diagrams for the cylinder head ... I think it goes back and makes the "suction" sound I hear maybe this is your problem too?

Jeromie,
Welcome to KF.
You're replying to a several year old thread, just FYI.
Check into Krieger's manual cam chain tension adjuster as a replacement to the Kawasaki auto unit. The stock unit is a well known failure point resulting in noise in the rpm range you're describing. I have one, as probably hundreds of other KLX250 owners.
