ya i dont get it.. a gas tank is 500 bucks but a clutch lever is 5?

 

Like any bike, if you crash it you'll most likely bend or break external parts. Internet chatter points out of potential weak areas (as compared to other dirt bikes) as bending foot pegs/brackets and bending the frame at the head stay (this apparently happened to KLX300s that crashed hard or were motocrossed). Everything else seems par for the course.

Most reports say the KLX250/300 engines fairly durable in terms of wear life. Beware of crashing on the left side where the shift lever will take an impact - I and several others have discovered that it is fairly easy to either break the shift star or bend the stud that limits shift lever travel.

oh boy where to start.. 09 klx250s

1. shift lever, crashed at about 50 week after i got it on dirt road. $20
2. Gas tank. started to leak out of the left side mounting hole. kawasaki warrantied it under evaporativee systems 7 year warranty. would of cost me $520.
3. bent bars.. crashed a couple times. pro tapers $70
4.Head gasket started to leak around 5000 miles. kawasaki warrantied it
5. clutch lever broke before i bought bark busters. $5 bike bandit
6. broke a turn signal. put smaller one's on all the way around $40

i think thats all..

 

Dropped mine on the right side today, well more like laid it down gently but in an unplanned and uncoordinated manner with the help of a tiny wet branch... Mangled the end of the brake pedal. Seems almost as bad as bending a shift lever on it's own, but much worse if it were to take out the water pump cover in the middle of nowhere... At least if you take out the shifter components you could pop the cover and get it into a gear to limp home. If you lose your coolant it's going to be a much longer trip home.
