Default Dry rotted "help" caps

Bike was running like **** and would not idle. Took a look around the bike and noticed the rubber caps where the emissions hoses were taken off were dry rotted. Any others had this problem? I will give update when I put new rubber caps on. These were the "help" brand caps I bought at the local auto parts store.

Yup, I had that happen on the cvk .... used some marine high temp rubber things I had laying around the warehouse. The "help" brand suckers did not seem to last long for me.

+! exact same situation here, but different brand. Brand was "Vacu-Tite" purple package. Cap rotted off and bike wouldn't hardly run. I havn't found a good cap yet.

dan888,

Go to a nearby auto repair/maintenance shop and ask them for the caps that you need. . . . many of the products we purchase, for repairs, come with various-sized vinyl caps on them. We generally save all of these caps for later use in the trade. These caps should not fail for a VERY long time!

Or you could put back on the emission garbage and not have to worry about rotting caps.

I have a block off plate. The only spot I have trouble with the rubber caps is on the carb. I have some of those vinyl caps laying around, never thought of using them to block the vaccum line.

You can also drill out and tap it, then put a screw in. Or solder the top of the fitting. I have had the same problem with the "help" brand.
