By the way, I'm still on the original battery and antifreeze from November of 2005.

Change the antifreeze. Do it.

I was riding some slow single track and my temp warning light came on, this was the first time ever, I stop and inspect things and find the fan mounts bent forward binding the fan against the rad. Bent it back enough to get the fan to spin and off I go...I only see the fan come on riding slow single track.

I only noticed my fan come on once in close to 3,000 miles. But then again, I don't ride in the extreme heat when it's like 90° or above and humid.

My riding buddy got so nervous about his 2010 never coming on that he devised some sort of controlled experiment where he kept track of water temperature vs the electrical switch activating to assure himself that neither the switch nor the fan was malfunctioning. Everything was ok, the two radiators just do a great job of managing the heat.

oldgypsy, I can totally understand your buddy. I feel like this as well. Thanks to your post and others, I'm not going to worry about it. Or at least try not to.

The fan turns on mostly when in still traffic (between 1 and 2 gear). I ride a lot in traffic so yah..

Why don't you wire in a switch to over ride the thermo switch so you can turn it on manually whenever you want?

Splice a spare coil into the power wire of the fan and tape the lead onto the outside of both hand grips and the seat. You should be able to tell when the fan comes on..

P.S. I don't think your fan ever works.

Horse power makes heat. Could be why the fan don't come on too often. Mine came on once in 17000+[trouble free] miles.
