Default DJ kit 2206 (klx300) for 09 250s help

I got this kit on sale and I do have a uni-filter but want to keep the quiet stock exhaust maybe bore open the tip to 1". I'm not certain if its worth doing a stage 1 as I have never done carb work before and keep stock pipe would notice improvement?. What set up would be proper? Anyone install a 300 kit with stock exhaust? Thank you for help!

Many early '06+ KLX owners tried opening up the stock exhaust by drilling the tip open. I don't recall any of them later promoting this as a performance improvement. More noise, yes, but no additional power. The stock exhaust is quiet and restricting.

I expect there will be a noticeable performance improvement with a 2206 kit, but don't recall anyone ever posting about it and I've not tried.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

I run a 350 kit/slide carb with a stock exhaust. I love it.
I think TNC runs a 300 kit with a stock exhaust, I don't know about his carb.

When you are ready to run the airbox lidless and have (at least) a performance slipon installed ( if not a full performance exhaust system) , you will be ready to install the needle from the 2206 kit (throw away the rest) along with a DJ140 (stock exhaust) or DJ144 (full system) main jet ( which you must order from DJ ) ..

With a stock exhaust system, all you'll get from any kind of carb work is poor gas mileage.

So if I dont add an exhaust im pissing in the wind. If i sell this kit and get the correct 250s dj kit is it worth doing with stock exhaust? Im interested in quicker warm ups and easier starts. Please advise Klxster

The 2206 kit has a superior needle compared to the 2152 - so keep your kit,

If your carb is operating properly, as well as your ignition system (spark plug and plug wire), and with carb draining or bike shaking on fresh gas, you should not have problems with startup and warmup. Having said that, the pilot jet and starter jet are the items that directly control the nuances of both.

Make sure your fuel screw is set to 2.5 - 3 turns (out from lightly seated) before doing anything else.

If you want to "fool" with carb internals, you could drill your starter jet (as per instructions in this forum) or replace your pilot jet with a #40 (and then reset the fuel screw to halfway between idle drops, or about 2 turns out if at sea level..) The #40 part number is available in here..
