Very true that the fans only come on when stopped or almost stopped, It is insane to take them off though. Heat kills engines. 20 seconds that the fans should have been on and functioning is way too long. That's 20 seconds of extreme abuse that should have never have happened.

The cheapest way to lose weight on the bike.... Is to buy a bike that is light already.
The KLX is a budget bike, therefor made from budget material (heavier). Why spend hundreds to lose a few pounds?

The cheapest way to lighten a bike is to take things off.
That costs nothing.

Exclamation

I discovered that the fan is useful on my past couple rides. The red temperature light came on a few times when i was doing some hill climbs and basically punishing the bike....nothing out of the normal. I thought maybe something was wrong, but then saw that my fan wasn't on. Tried to turn it with my finger and it feels like the bearings are shot or something. Its fried either way. Definitely going to get another one.

If you want to ride lighter....try switching to a light beer or eat more veggies instead of mcdonalds for a while

Took mine off not long after getting the bike. havn't had any issues to date and i thrash it. I figured that the extra airflow would cool better than a computer fan. Just an opinion guys ok?

An easy way to check the fan is to take the wire that goes to the thermostat on the RHS radiator, and touch it onto a metal part of the bike that is earthed. The radiator itself is good.
With the ignition on, the fan should come on when the wire is grounded regardless of temp.
If the fan works when doing this, but is not spinning well before the red light comes on, then the thermostat is faulty.
Red light comes on when the sensor on the LHS radiator reaches between 107 and 113 degrees C.

What can you take off of a significant weight without replacing?? The replacing part is what costs money! There is minimal weight that can be reduced without spending money.

Carry rack!

But that's not the point.

1. If you already have a KLX and you want more/less, no way is it cheaper to go and buy another bike.
2. No way can you go and buy what I now have. It is unique.
3. Using your logic, no mod is worth while.
4. Tinkering is part of the fun.
5. I posted what was my experience when I removed the fan. Just sharing the love. And, IMO it's not worth doing. It wasn't a waste of time as I enjoyed the experiment and I learned something. Tomorrow the fan goes back on and I may or may not try something else. I'll see how I feel.
6. It is benign and some what tiresome when people say "you should have got a different bike". Well I didn't. So I'm making the most out of what I have. And having a heap of fun doing so.

Did I go too far here?
