Never have, and I've talked one-on-one to rangers in Utah and Colorado about it. Some of my local friends there say you should do it because it helps in state trail maintenance and building. I don't give any more money to a governmental entity than I have to anymore and especially Colorado. I do, however, belong to COHVCO, an advocacy group for off road users.

We did last year and I intend to do this year. Some people say you need it for plated bikes and some say your don't, there was a big debate about it last year on Advrider. Someone posted the link to the law, I personally read it and could see how it could be interpreted either way. My opinion is its cheap insurance as compared to getting a ticket by a ranger. I know you could fight a ticket, but I live 1300 miles away and its not that easy to show up and fight a ticket.

I know riders with Colorado plates do not have to buy stickers but I am not positive about out of state riders. Two of us with Colorado plated dirt bikes (easy to do in Colorado) got flagged down on a trail by a ranger once. He walked around to the back of the bikes, saw the plates, told us we were fine because we had plates. I have ridden with a plated bike from out of state there for a few years with no problem but it has never come up while riding either I guess. We did have a ranger come through camp once and give us 24 hours to go into town and buy OHV tags for the NON-PLATED bikes and ATV's. he came back through camp and checked the next day .

In Colorado you do not have to have an OHV sticker with a fully street legal bike. Repeat...you do not have to have an OHV sticker with a fully street legal bike. It doesn't matter what state you are from. Not sure if you can read this current posted notice or not, but this is what a ranger of any stripe or kind will direct you to, and some even carry a copy of the notice. I have some very good friends in CO, and they believe you should get a sticker regardless to help with trail maintenance/building. That's a good point, but I'm not giving any more to Colorado governmental entities than I have to, and that's because of my own personal issues that I will not air here. I'd rather get my annual membership with COHVCO, a CO advocacy organization. People should do what their conscience directs, but the law does not require an OHV sticker on a street legal/registered bike.

Good deal, have fun. There are some good vids from many of the trails in the area that give an honest appearance of the ease or difficulty.

I've been watching some, most look more difficult than easy. Any tips on a couple easy trails in the area to start out on and work ourselves up to the ones more difficult?
