Colorado - Taylor Lake Advice
Hey guys,
As some of you know, I went to Colorado with some guys for the first time last year and we used Lake City as a Base. One of the guys and myself are thinking about making a return trip this year, but my buddy wants to find new trails (prefer single) and I am looking at Taylor Lake. Any advice on this area?
Its kind of getting short notice for us as we didn't originally plan on going but are now wanting to. I don't even know if there are any cabins open for rent in Taylor Lake or if they are all booked. Does Taylor Lake have food, gas, etc? We will probably take my car (Taurus) with trailer, is Cottonwood Pass doable? Is there somewhere else we should look at using as a base camp that is better in the general area? I know if we can transverse Cottonwood Pass to Taylor Lake it will save us a bunch of driving from going over Monarch and into Gunnison and back out.
Thanks

I read some threads over there. I also asked here and over there last year about information and got far better info here than I did over there. I think that stems from the people that live and ride there don't visit a town for a week. Yeah they may pass through and get gas or a bite to eat, but thats about it.
Anyway, I just called Taylor Park and they don't have any vacancy for either of the 2 weeks we are looking at.

Landon, are you camping primitive or do you need a campground that has water, bathrooms, showers, etc.? How many people and vehicles, not counting motorcycles. What trails do you plan to ride as far as proximity to your camping? I've been there a few times.
When i was out there in 2011 we were there for two weeks. The first week we rented a house in Ouray the second week was in Crested butte. The best and worst idea of my life was to go to ouray. Its the nicest place i have EVER been.
I would move out there in a heart beat if i could find a job.

Everything we did in Ouray could be done on a heavily modified Jeep. If you are looking for true single track we didnt ride much of that. They were all technically roads.
Crested butte has more single track. But the scenery was way better in Ouray.

Good grief, EMS...what a candybutt! Hot tubs and condos...what a wuss!
Yeah, that's why I was asking him what method of accommodation he was looking at. There's a ton of options between my primitive camping vs. your Grey Poupon lifestyle.

Right now its just two of us. One car and a trailer with 2 bikes. We would prefer a cabin type setting. Last year we stayed in a cabin with no water where we used a bath house and that is fine. Don't plan on tenting it.

Best vacation of my life so far. Headed to Germany in 70 days for two weeks curious to see if it will be better.
