The problem was dirty battery terminals, after cleaning them the clock hasn't reset itself.

However, during starting the F1 and overheat light come on and as soon as the engine starts, both go off. Although this isn't a problem (yet) it isn't correct, any ideas?

Another question, how are service codes erased from the memory?

I don't have an FI bike, so I don't know for sure, but typically all the indicator lights will light up when ignition is turned on, but then turn off after the engine is running. Every car I've ever driven works this same way.

Only exception I've seen was on the 2007 Vstrom ABS I had - the ABS light would stay on until you were going at least 5 or 10 MPH, something like that - since it doesn't know the system is working until it gets feedback from the wheel sensors, which only provide data when the wheel is rotating.

So, I'd say this is normal. it's also likely covered in the owner's manual.

Re clearing service codes, I'm no help, but I'll bet that the dealership has a plug that they plug into the ECU (like an OBDII connector on a car) and reset it that way. Sometimes there two wires they connect momentarily that clear codes. There might even be a sequence with the select and reset buttons that clear the codes.
