I have finally installed the KLX 300 DJ kit -with some changes. I had bought the KLX 300 DJ kit before the KLX 250 DJ kit came out and wanted to figure out the difference. Besides the needle, one of the differences is that the 300 kit has you drill the slide Vs the 250 kit, which has a different spring -which is simply a shorter spring( I ordered it from DJ) and is recognized as the other way to improve throttle response.
So, my set up is as follows:
13T front sproket
HMF slip on with QC insert.
KDX 200 Snorkel -stock filter, but will be changing to UNI.
128 main jet.
DJ 250 kit spring, but did not drill the slide.
DJ 300 kit needle @#3
Screw @ 3 turns -which is the DJ 250 kit recommendation.

I'll be putting it back on the bike tonight and will let everyone know how it goes.

BTW, my son's 07 250 is bone stock, so I am going to do a seat of the pants comparisson.
Also, I,m in the noise control business, so I'm going to bring home my sound level meter this weekend and get the stock bike dB and the dB of mine with the HMF with & without the QC insert.

i have an 09 installed the 132 main set clip like reccomended air screw 2.5 snorkel removed two brothers pipe still getting popping under decel help

 

I had decel poppin while lean....Overrated....Pipe was fine and plug was as well.....

I got the 300 kit with my 09...Same poppin but now with flames while revving under choke while cold....I pulled just the snorkle and ran 2-1/4 and drilled slide..Tried the lid off but thought it sounded like a fat chick garglin..Ill try two turns with mine next...Maybe adjust the clip 1 up as well....Still plenty driveable....Ride the thing and dont sweat the small stuff...j/k

I put the carb on last night and could not believe how awsome it ran! I turned on the gas, choked it and it started almost imediately! Throttle respose is great, no flat spots and no decel popping.
This weekend I'm going to try and do some comparisons between my stock bike and this one . I'm also going do the sound level readings -just for "****s and giggles".
