I took the carb apart and pulled the main jet to clean. While cleaning I noticed a small brass pice had fallen out. Near as I can tell I think it's part #16017 but not exactly sure. Does it go in before the jet and if so in which direction?

I assume you pulled the emulsion tube and the brass needle jet fell out,,? If so, it goes in only one way - when correct, it'll protrude into the carb bore a little bit..

Did some more reading and yes, I pulled the emulsion tube. Does that piece go in first over the slide needle and you say it protrudes into the carb bore when installed correctly?
I'll try that, I just wasn't sure where it came from.
