Can I force the radiator fan on, for diagnostics?

Default Can I force the radiator fan on, for diagnostics?

Dropped my '13 klx250s dirt biking about a month ago. Broke the right radiator shroud pretty bad, but everything else was fine, still riding. I just got around to replacing the shroud and notice the radiator/fan/fan-braces had been just bent and wiggled enough the fan blade was touching the radiator, and couldn't spin. I was able to wiggle/bend everything back into place, and the fan spins fine when I rotate it by hand.

But, I've ridden a few times since the drop, and I'm thinking maybe the fan was trying to spin, but jammed. And consequently maybe I might have hurt or burned out the fan motor?

I'd like to have the radiator fan motor turn on and see if the motor is working. Is there any way besides trying to run the engine hot?

All you need to do is get some juice to the fan to see. I made up a fan switch for mine which essentially has it's own leads going straight to the battery. If yours is like mine (2014 EFI model) your fan wires will have a connector not long after leaving the fan. Disconnect that and you could connect some wires from that to your battery and voila. But make sure you know which is positive and which is negative. I don't recall offhand.

If there are 2 wires, the motor will just run backwards. If that happens, just reverse the wires before finalizing everything.

Very easy to do. Turn key on. Remove both wires off sensor @ bottom of right radiator. Cross wires together. Fan should run.

This way you are testing the bikes wiring also.

This would be extra easy to do. Wish FI bikes had be sensor on the radiator

I wish mine was FI. Never understood why the states didn't get FI with our strict emission standards.
