Refresh my memory on Rim Bender's findings back around post page 39 of the original cam thread. If I recall he even went back to stock, didn't he? His description of the power signing off too early sounds a little like what I'd expect from this mod.

Hmmm, well....the cam mod "seems" to put the power where I want it, since the 351 does that too, I'll wait and save some $$$ and then some more for the pumper.
What I'm seeking is the ability to pop the front wheel without thinking about it, like when I'm in the woods and come around a blind corner to a downed tree at 15-20mph. If I see it in time, I can clear them with clutch and gas, just wish it was easier. And some real power from 3-5K rpm would be great, it is a thumper after all.
I really need a big field to practice wheelies, stoppies and such, that would probably help my riding a lot, but I still want the throttle wheelie.
KLX300 header and pipe, new hi-flo air filter, and kdx snorkel, with a re-jet might keep me happy for long enough, until I get the 351.
I'm not really looking to mess with my cams, but the how to is good enough that I know I could do it, just really not sure that I should, since I only have a loose understanding of what the changes really mean. It looks good on paper, though.

And losing power at 8500 wouldn't be good, not that there's a lot but she does pretty good at 8500+, in regards to where you end up when up-shifting.
If I had 2 of these, I'd do both, just to see.
I guess I should read on, way beyond the camshaft/351 debacle, again.

I think if you want to save for exhaust first and other mods, the cam mod will put a smile on your face and get you by, but if you really want your butt to squeeze the seat so to say, 331 or 351 for sure

My thoughts are like TNC's even a 300cc top end from another stock bike would be more of a step up I'd think and pretty cheap if you shop for awhile.

I think the recent cash outflow for cjbiker's wheel set, 4 new tires, and this(my motorcycle/camping/race transport vehicle) had me looking to optimize the low cost opitions:

It's old but in damn good shape, most importantly it's 4matic, so not much need to use the studded tires on the KLX in the snow anymore. I almost got ran down by an 18 wheeler in the snow today. He was tailgating on a 2 lane highway with a 40MPH speed limit(which I was doing), with 2" of snow on the ground. I kept picturing myself under his bumper until he passed, as I was finally able to pull over.
I've got a spare engine and trans to go with it.
I stole it, a mechanic I knew got it for trade for work on a Porsche, he sold it to me for a good price, after using and fixing it for his family transport vehicle.
For once in my life, right place, right time, and not a dollar short.
And once I swap the 1 1/4" for a 2" hitch, I can put the bike on the back with a moto-tote type hauler.

Definitely needs pics of that. Sounds like a bullet proof KLX hauler.
