Default Took bike out of storage, need some tips.

So I just got back from a 9 month tour in afghanistan about a month ago, and im not gonna lie, i probably stored my 2010 klx250s completely wrong . It was on the back of my truck the entire time, didnt disconnect the battery, or do anything to the tank to prevent rust... I got it started this past weekend after charging the battery. So basically, i want to know everything I need to do, to ensure that everything is in good running order, so i don't end up messing up my bike. Thanks

Oil change
Coolant change
Drain and flush the tank, fill with new fuel (NOT, I say again NOT E10, or E-anything else for that matter)
Drain and flush carb
Replace air cleaner element
If the battery is still holding charge then give it a night on the trickle charger, if not then replace it.

Glad you made it back in one piece. Thanks for putting your *** on the line. It means a lot to a lot of people.

First off, thanks for your service. Glad you are home, hope you are here to stay.
Started is good, but running? Yes or no.
I would drain the fuel, change the oil, check the coolant level, and check the air filter(and remove any nests).
Check the air pressure in the tires.
If it runs poorly a carb cleaning may be needed.

I imported a 2010, new from the dealers floor in 2012. Been lying there for two years. Charged the battery, put some gas in and drove it away from customs.

Welcome home! Unfortunately, a high school friend of mine who went to Afghanistan never had the opportunity to hear those words so I'll say them to you!
As others have said, you'll want to check tires, coolant, battery, oil, & fuel at a minimum. It's also a good idea to change out the fuel & oil completely along with cleaning the carb and checking all seals and lubing cables, controls & chain.

Yea right.......
Easy to say when all you have available is E10.
The bike better run on it as that's what it was designed for.....

Thanks for the welcome home blessings, I'm glad I'm back in one piece too, haha. And I have mad respect for those who never made it back... true heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.

I wish I could have taken my klx with me though, Afghanistan would be a great place to ride if it weren't for ieds and Taliban, haha.

Now I talked to my father who has an 08 klr 650 and he said he never had to replace the coolant, been running the same stuff for 5 years with no problems. So I'm guessing just checking the level is fine. Now my only other real big concern is the front brakes, they are real spongey and it started before I put it in storage, and ideas about what is causing this? Air in the lines, low fluid...
