legal in california...auxiliary lamps do not need to be dot...but, they do have rules on installation and direction....i use to own an suv with lot of lights....if you have more than 4 lamps, it's considered off-road lights and need to be covered on the streets...this is for california, but if it's legal in ca, i'm sure it's legal in other states..haha

(c) On a motorcycle, the foglamps authorized under this section shall be mounted on the front at a height of not less than 12 inches nor more than 40 inches and aimed so that when the vehicle is not loaded none of the high-intensity portion of the light to the left of the center of the vehicle projects higher than a level of four inches below the level of the center of the lamp from which it comes, for a distance of 25 feet in front of the vehicle.

Took me some head scratching to figure that out.
I could have read the manual, but that's too easy.
You saved me posting up! I was wondering how to get at that thing too...my owners manual does NOT tell you how to change a bulb!

Does anyone know the life expectancy of these bulbs? I always find the brighter the bulb, the shorter the lifespan.

When I bought mine, the guy that sold it to me said he's transferred his to 4 different bikes. I've had mine for 10000 miles, at least a couple hundred off-road miles, lots of hard crashes over the winter, etc. So far so good. I feel it was worth the price.

Yup. Thats sounds acceptable on a dual purpose bike. Are these lights only available online?

As I was reading this, I just thought of the last time I road home at like midnight and I was thinking to myself "I wonder if there is a brighter headlight for my bike" Needless to say, I don't even think I made it to the computer that night so I ended up forgetting about it.
Found that bulb you were talking about on ebay, Piaa 70456 Powersports Xtreme White Headlight Single 1 Pack H4 60 55W 110 100W | eBay
I think I'm gonna have to pick one up, it is a little expensive for a light bulb but it could be worse, I know at the shop we probably charge people more money in labor to change bulbs in cars than what this bulb costs haha. Thanks for the info guys, just ordered mine up.
