i don't rely on my speedo or odometer at all (it's off by 2 mph to 5 mph depending on tire wear)...i use a gps to get actual miles...i fill up to exactly where i had it previously and record how much fuel was used...i've done this many times to get accurate mpg....

before i was always getting almost exactly 65 mpg...up or down maybe 2 mpg at most...i've made no jetting changes or modifications...just the bigger tire swaps...now, i'm getting almost exactly 55 mpg...again up or down maybe 2 mpg at most...the shinkos are much more heavy duty with lot more rubber than the stock road winner street tires...just lifting both, i can tell the shinko 705 weigh much more...well..with larger shinko 705, my speedo is actually almost accurate now...haha..one good thing....only off by 1 mph to 2 mph at most...

Thad,
Went for a good ride today. First real one since being whacked. Ran 13/45 and there were times I wish the 49 was on, even with the little trials tire. Definitely going back to the 49 when the trials tire is gone and the TMII is installed, or perhaps even sooner. Running with the PBR boys today, and they were all geared lower than me ('01XR250 and 2 carbed WR250s). The 351 would pull past all of them on an open run over 45 mph. Nearly looped coming out of a creek bottom and landed back down in the shallow creek. It was hot and felt good but a little unnerving doing that for the first time.

That's good to know, Scott. I'm thinking my 13/47 setup may be just about perfect for what I'm looking for as long as I don't exceed a 110/100 tire back there. It's funny, I've been able to coexist with a 14/47 setup for about 3 years in the past with the 100/100 Trakmaster by being able to carry good speed with the modded suspension. I think I'll have better gear options with the 13. My chain length has me at the far forward location, so I have gobs of room to deal with the 13 over the 14.

Default new mt21

Wore down the mitas, great tire btw.the only MT21 size I could find is a 120/90 18 (width about right but abit tall).Im running stock gearing and the 351 still pulls this tire no problem even up some steep tech rocky (bowling ball size) stuff, tho needs some clutch fangling at times.I tried a 13/45 but it seemed to low (got tired of shifting also).I usually run a 110/100 size rear, I will have to gear down again and try it but even the stock gearing seems to low on the slab sometimes.

Good luck on that one!!! A buddy of mine has over 6,000 miles on his, and it still hasn't worn to where it needs to be replaced.
