Cool idea on the headlight switch, Neil. I have a headlight on/off switch on mine...and my KLR650 too. That relatively high wattage draw on a weak battery on a bike without a kickstart can make the difference in an extreme situation. Ever try to bumpstart a KLR650 in an off road situation? They're hard enough to bump start on good pavement. The KLX is a bit easier, but I figure the minimal work of a headlight switch in a marginal battery situation is worth it.

In states that require a "headlight on" in the U.S., the law doesn't require that the headlight be "unswitched"...just that you drive with the headlight on. The DOT requirement makes manufacturers supply the bike without a switch, but an owner can add a switch. Texas doesn't require a headlight-on situation or even turn signals. I'm not promoting that people run with their headlight off or no turn signals in my state while on pavement, but having the ability to turn the headlight off while starting is a good idea IMO. I don't run the headlight while off road either. The KLX has a tiny battery, and I'm sure it appreciates all the help it can get.

If your doing it to sneak into places all you have to do is burn the high beam side of the bulb out. That light will let the whole world know your there but if it's out your actually fairly hard to spot.
