Anyone with experience building motors - advice plz?
$^#(*^#@($#@(*$$#@^%^@!%@#%!!!!
Of course things couldn't just go smooth and I'd get it right the first time..
I just put the 351 kit on my bike, and when I looked at the old cylinder I noticed it still has a bolt sleeve on it.. See the right cylinder - top right hole - that sleeve..

The motor is all back together, all torqued down, then I see this.
Now the big question is do I tear it all apart again for this part? Or is it not essential??
This sucks. I really hope I don't need to tear it down again.
This was my first attempt at something like this so go easy on me!
Thanks

Yes mate! Gonna have to take that back down and put the collet on the new cylinder. It's there to keep the head and the cylinder in alignment. It's very important. Sorry to rain on your parade.
Have to agree, it needs to be in there to line up the head and cylinder. Since the 351 kit comes with a copper head gasket, you should be able to re-use it instead of getting a new one. Also, you don't have to take the cylinder off, so the piston and rings can stay where they are, just have to pull the head off. Not too hard of a job. Good luck.
Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I'll be tearing the head off again. Guess it's better that I noticed now and not after I got everything all back in.. Just have to take off the valv cover, and head. I'm going to see if I can just lift the head a bit and slide it in without taking everything fully off...
Here goes nothing!
Xplosivo1 - wasn't too hard - just some tedious crap to be done. I'm still not even sure if I got it all right, I guess I'll see today when I crank it over
