Default another n00b question

I changed the oil before my Moab trip, but didn't change the filter. I'm going to be changing the oil and filter this weekend. I purchased the KN 112 filter and it should arrive today or tomorrow.

A friend told me that I may need to "oil the filter". I am not familiar with this, since I am a bit new to motorcycles.

Is this required on these filters? How is this done?

Thanks

It's not really necessary. The inside of the engine is already lubricated with oil - it's not starting up dry.

I've never poured oil into a filter prior to putting it in. Never had a problem because of this that I know of.

Just remember to put a dab of grease on the spring so it will stay in place while you put the filter in.

The only time you fill a filter is a fuel filter on a diesel.

I'm sure he was talking about your air filter, which you should clean and oil on a regular basis.

Yep

I thought that sounded strange. I spoke to him again and because I said "K&N" I guess all he heard was air filter.

Thanks!
