Default Air Box Lid Pre-filter

Air Box Lid Pre-filter.

I usually run without a lid. So I bought a 3/8” course UNI filter sheet and I plan on making this to keep the bigger stuff out of the air box. It may also keep some noise down. I would think that the air flow should be almost the same without a lid.

I made this drawing so you can see what I am talking about. Thoughts?

Great idea cmott426! I don't think that should affect air flow too badly, but I guess you will find out soon. Where did you get the uni air filter material and what are you using for the plate material?

cmott, I did the same thing using the OEM airbox lid as a clamp and using some Uni prefilter material. Oddly I didn't find it to accomplish much in keeping dirt off the main filter. You'd have to oil this prefilter for it to do any good, and at that point it won't take long to plug up this smaller prefilter opening. I thought it would work better, but it didn't do that great for me. Maybe your results will be different, but my oiled filter appeared to get just as dirty just as soon.

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I race at a few tracks that can be really dusty, and use a prefilter on my race bikes. You do have to oil it to work, but the problem I see is that the area of the opening is probably 1/4 of the filter area, so it might be restricting.
