Aftermarket handguard question
I'm about to order a set of Zeta handguards for my '06 KLX. I noticed that with the stock setup, the pivot bolts (the bolts that attach the levers to the perches) have a long hex shank that the stock handguards also attach to. When replacing the stock handguards, has anyone also replaced those pivot bolts with something that looks better with aftermarket handguards? If so, what bolts did you use? Will the pivot bolts from an '09 work with '06 lever perches?
I wouldn't get a set of gaurds that mount the same as the stock pathetic wind deflectors get a set with the aluminum bar that mounts into the handle bar end and the other end mounts independantly onto the bars and not on the perches.
That's exactly what the Zeta's are - aluminum bars that mount to the bars/bar ends with add-on wind deflectors. What I'm asking is once the stock wind deflectors are removed, has anyone replaced the stock lever pivot bolts with something else. Something that looks more "normal" and doesn't have the long hex shank sticking up like the stock ones.
I did. The brake is pretty std. I had a new drum brake perch laying around--that bolt fit fine. The clutch was an oddball. I just replaced the entire perch with a MSR one for a CR250 (plus now I can use CR250 replacement levers which are available everywhere). Got rid of that clutch switch also.
