Default Advice on mods

I have read a lot of posts about the standard list of mods, but I have a little different question. Right now I am just getting some seat time on the new KLX ('07) and it is mild mannered enough to keep me out of trouble in stock form. As my skills improve I would like to mod the airbox/filter, rejet, add a slip on or full exhaust and ultimately a BB kit...in other words the normal list. My question is should I do the mods in the order listed above? Having build jeeps and ATV's over the years I like to add vehicle capability as my skills improve. Thanks all!

Edit: I know that rejetting will be an ongoing process as other mods are performed, so ignore that in the list, thanks!

I was in the same boat. My philosophy was to add easy mods without breaking the bank. I started with the slip-on, then air filter, then larger snorkel (KDX) which led me needing to rejet. At this point I'm happy and don't feel a need to do anything more.

Get the jet kit first.
The bike needs to be a little richer from the factory. Then when you do mod the air box and replace the exhaust you will all ready have the jets to go with them.

Jet and snorkel (either KDX or remove) then big bore. All other mods after that in whichever order you choose.

Jet kit then big bore. Gets the biggest bang for your buck.

All the rest help but not to the same degree.

Big bore kit right out of the gate and buy one size up on the pilot and 2 sizes up on the main jet. DONE.

the bike will still be mild mannered enough with the stock slide spring.
As far as the exhaust goes, you don't NEED to change it right off, and i wouldn't go cheap just to make it breathe better. get something that is going to HELP not just be loud.

That's a helluva large jet to be using on the KLX250, even at sea level. But that's just my opinion. It seems to be working for you. Your mileage is okay. You run WOT a lot of the time. I assume the plug looks good and the tail pipe isn't a sooty mess. The 132 DJ is equivalent to a 142 or 143 Keihin jet, with the stock being a 118 Keihin. I would bet you a beer, however, that it's running rich.

lj:

The only mods really mentioned thus far are on the power end. Where are you riding? Any rough trails or streets? Once you get used to the bike and start pushing it harder, you may find that the suspension is lacking. Suspension upgrades came before the 351 kit for me. I went with heavier fork and shock springs (I'm about 200 lbs) and re-valved the forks. A shock re-valve remains on the to-do list. And at 6'+, a tall seat was also really important. And it keeps going...Skid plate. Taller handlebars with risers. Handguards. Lower gears. A larger fuel tank. Crash resistant signal lights. And a bit more.
