I've paid some attention to this over time as I didn't want to get a 351 that NEEDED high octane. I ride into desolate areas and need to fill with the only station around, which may be 87 or sometimes only 85. Some other riders do, but I think most don't use high octane, and I don't recall many (or any?) announcing detonation issues with low octane fuel.
That said, I'm running 91 ethanol-free for my first tank and hoping to get to the dirt this weekend for more fun and fumes.

I noticed that the shims have worn or were not very accurately manufactured. I measured with a fairly decent micrometer the intake shims were 3.08 each and the exhausts were 3.03 and 2.99 or am I being somewhat retentive here.

A true micrometer or a vernier caliper? If a micrometer, what kind?
