Hey y'all I am about to take a ride from my home here in North Alabama to Mobile, wich is about 340 miles one way. I will have to take the interstate for about 60 miles but I was wondering, This little bike runs about 7000 RPM on the road, should I do a differant front spoket?? I have a 09 KLX 250 SF, I know I could take the Harley, but I am going on an adventure!

 

I'd put a 15 up front for extended, long distance travel. But I wouldn't say you HAVE to.

@mashrider: If you are contemplating a larger front sprocket in attempt to reduce highway rpms, my experience is that the little 250 just doesn't have the guts at highway speeds to push air effectively with taller gearing. Quite the contrary, I have found that *lower* gearing actually helps top speed and reduces the amount of downshifting you'll have to do when you encounter hills and headwinds...

 

+1, stick to the stock gearing. In stock form, the bike has just enough power to get you up a medium grade hill at highway speed. I commute about 100 miles a day on my SF, when it's nice.

It's pretty well set up for what it's designed for. Just ride it. I'd recommend a proper uncorking (silencer and jet kit), a better seat and larger fuel tank if you want to spend some money though.

 

I ran 240 plus miles in one day with almost all of it at 7k and above rpms, While it seemed like I was killing it, it did fine.

 

Thanks guys, I am not oing to spend a ton of $$ on my bike, I did buy the rack from Nomatic on Ebay.....It's the Bomb!!!!! I had it on in 10 min. looks soo nice and my bags fit like a charm. seat is going to be an issue I may just do the simple sheepskin I don't know but I leave tomarrow so I guess Ill stop by the Motor cycle super store in Birmingham and get one.

 

Alot of guys here get a universal atv seat pad from Walmart and report good things with it.
