Makes me wonder - several of us have had oil issues with 351 lately. Are we all making some similar mistake, or was there a batch of parts with tolerance issues?

 

I'm with you guys. Same stuff going on. Bill seemed pretty irritated last time I talked to him.

 

Irritated with you/us or with the sudden outbreak of oil hemorrhage ?

 

I think at the whole situation. Possibly a conversation for phone or PM.

 

Talked to Bill - in essence I'm buying a new kit - he resleeved it and is sending me new piston/rings/gasket.

we talked a little bit about heat control - thinks my bike is running a little hot (even with oil in it lol). Suggested i upjet the mikuni one size to richen up and drill out the crankcase breather hole in the airbox IIRC

he mentioned that on his own bike it loses a little bit of oil over time (at high RPM?) and he never figured out where it goes. (shrug) still a mystery to me what happened.

hoping to get built back up this weekend if it all comes in in time.

in retrospect i'm wondering if the 331 isnt the better choice for this bike - little more metal in the cylinder, little less compression, less "on the edge"

 

Mine doesn't use any oil & I only change it once / yr.

 

I'm going to take apart my garage queen soon to see why my ~200mi 351 kit burns oil as well.
Gonna speak to bill and see about a head porting while I redo that top end.

 

i really would like an answer on why...somethign with the rings aint right perhaps

 

My 351 burned oil at 1st, but it was determined to be the valve seal. The wrong one was used while the head was being cleaned up. They are an odd size, I'm told.

 

I've had Bill's 351 kit in for about a year and I've used no oil between changes.
