I've sent a customer's 351 cylinder, piston, and rings to JE Piston to be analyzed as to what they feel the problem is. I hope to hear back from them this coming week & will post the results as soon as I get them.

As far as incorrect ring size, all rings are fit to the cylinder before I ship them.

Any update on what JE discovered in their analysis?

I have about 100 miles on the rebuild and so far everything is going well.

One thing i cant figure out: the first kit i installed (with upgrade to Bills mikuni carb), the cold starting improved dramatically - no need to choke just a few twists of the throttle to "prime" it, and it would start up instantly and settle into idle quickly. for some reason when i installed kit #2, its back to being cold blooded like it was with the stock carb and bore. choke, fight with it, start, then warm up for several minutes before idle stabilises and can unchoke.

since you mention it - I do always have trouble getting the intake boot on all way around and seated well. I’ll check that again.

What is this wd40 trick you speak of? Spray around the hose clamps and see if it gets drawn in?

yes it helps to identify if there's a leak. Exactly where the rubber intake contacts the carb

arrrggghhh. Is there a fix or am I in line for a new $$$$ylinder head!?!
Sphen
What did you end up doing to remedy this? I did the same thing, makes me think the torque value listed in the manual maybe wrong.
