Well it's fixed and the weekend will be saved. It was just crap in the carb. Sounds like a country song. But one more question the allen head screw at the bottom of the carb, it looks like a drain but is it?

You may want to consider adding a better fuel filter. I put one of those clear ones on in the line between the petcock and carb.

Congrats on finding the problem. Have a great weekend ride.

And Pogi has it correct on the drain. Fuel will also flow out here if the bowl over-fills (stuck float, leaking float needle) so if you see fuel flowing out and the allen is closed, don't go wrenching on the allen thinking that it is leaking because it may not be.

You all already figured it out...but, yes the smog pump just sucks dirty air and blows it into the exhaust port through a reed valve. The block off plate that Bill Blue sells replaces that reed valve. In the desmog process, it's probably not really even necessary (though recommended) to plug that connection - though there is a possibility of an exhaust leak if the reed valve fails to seal.

After I thought about it Lutz is probably in Canada " on the North shore of Lake Superior. We will be riding in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. From Lake Michigan to Superior.

Ha...not Canada, but damn near sometimes. Minnesota is where I make my home.
