Honestly, sounds like you need to cut your loss and buy a different bike.

Thanks to many from this forum this small bike can almost be considered an expandable platform (292, 331, various performance mods and options). However I don’t think it will ever be comparable to a KTM 450 or TE 450 for all out performance.

Get the orange bike. You won't be disappointed in the power of that one. Sounds like you needed to do a little more research before purchasing your bike. If you were looking at a DRZ then ended up with a KLX. Neither will ever be in the same league(at least in the power department) as a450 MX or true Enduro bike.

I'm in the same place you are. I went to the dealer to look at trading in the KLX on an 05 WR 450 with only 76km on it (like new) but they wanted $3 G's with my bike, a bit much.

Problem: When I went to buy my duals sport I went to get a DRZ 400, none in stock so I let the salesman talk me into the klx without test ridding it first.

Whose to blame: Me obviously! I wouldn't buy a truck without a test drive so I don't know why i bought a bike that I had never ridden.

What I have done: All of the basic mods Including a full Muzzy system and a jet kit!

WhatI am struggling with: Lack of torquein 3rd through 5th gear ( I can't carry the front end through 3rd gear!!!!!!!!!)

The Pickle: I can' decide if it is worth sinking another$500 to $900 more in upgrades or just cut ties and find a 400cc or 450cc Dual sport( I know that that will be around $6500 to 8k)

What i want from ya'll: Just answer me these questions;
What kind of performance can I expect with the 300cc kit? (Wheelies through 3rd, 4th maby!?)
How good can i make the stock suspension without complete upgrades? ( Aggressive trails to mild MX)

Don't think that i haven't given this bike a chance either I've had it since Aug. of 06 and put 1000 miles on it I just don't want to put any more moneyintothis bike and still be disappointed.
Also if any one is reading this thinking that this bike is not for them now let me say that for a beginner to novice rider this bike is fun, but I have been riding for 14 yrs and raced for 8 of those years so I would consider myself a fairly aggressive rider.And I weigh 175I just want a little more UMPH!!!!!!!!
I did a lot of the same before i solved this problem. I put all the goodies on my wifes KLX 250 and traded in my KLX 250 on a KLX 450R . I lost about $1000.00 on what i paid for my bike but it would have been much more if i couldn't use the " extras" for my wifes bike. Depending where you live it may not be too hard to street plate the 450R. I will give a full ride report as soon as my bike shows up . < March sometime >

I bought a klx250s last year"april" and within a month of owning the bike I sold it "300km. I also didnt take it for a test ride, had I took it for a spin I never would have bought the bike. I sold theklx250s at a loss of $900 and needed $2000 more the get the bike I have now, DRZ400. Im very happy with the DRZ400 compared to the klx250s but thats a whole other story. One thing about the klx250 thatI like is the way it looks. Other than that I think most people whom buy the klx250 will outgrow them very quickly, I know I did.

cheers

If you want Crazy power look at one of these! Aprilia is atwin cylinder with fuel injection. It comes in a 450 or 550. Its a bit pricey but it goes back to that old saying "You get what you pay for".. The husky and the ktm's are also great choices!

Those aprillas have power and look nice but you would spend more time wrenching than riding it. Look at the maintaince schedules for those things, good lord
