Hey roverdude

Thanks for the quick comeback and for your positive comment to me. It's all good among friends .... and I've always thought of you that way!

It looks like Sail-A-Way is still searching for a solution. Let's see if we can get out of the way of the one that has the right answer for a stressed out member.

Hang in there Sail-A-Way. It looks to me like Cliffsta has an '09 with a 13tooth CS. What did he have to say about your common issue? Doesn't the '09 have the shoulder cast on the 13 tooth CS like the '06/'07's have????

ok guys, why make this so hard? this is perhaps the easiest mod to do to the KLX and so many make it so hard. I have an '09 and have had an '06 as well, and I can attest that both bikes are identical down there. you can fit any Ninja 250R front sprocket or any Honda XR650L front sprocket. That's all you need to know. If you go around searching for sprockets for the KLX250S, you won't have much luck.
denniskirk.com has moose brand for around $15, I've bought two of them for both my bikes. the '09 splines are NOT different than the '07 like someone stated. the nut is on there hard, but if you can get some leverage it will come off in solid and quick jerk. if you try and muscle it off gradually, it won't move. a quick jerk/snap and it loosens right off. the sprocket you put on should have a shoulder that sticks out on one side- this goes towards the engine. if it doesn't have a shoulder, you've got the wrong sprocket. you shouldn't have to "machine" any part of the sprocket either. I still do not understand why this mod is so confusing to some. Perhaps a sticky needs to be made about what sprockets fit. finding part #'s makes it too confusing, if you search for the two bikes I already mentioned, it's a lot easier as those two bike are very common. good luck.

PD = Primary Drive.

The part is for a 07 but it fits the 09, like 09KLX said, "they are the same down there".

*Sigh*

Ok, let me repeat my self.

I have an 09 KLX 250S.

This is what I ordered through the dealer catalog

http://sunstar-mc.com/searchresults.aspx?ProdNum=34213

I had the dealer install it for me. It took 30 minutes at about $50.

The countershaft sprocket in that link works for an 09 KLX 250s GREEN

....may not work for the red ones. ;P

No, I put a 14-tooth replacement on the bike, but I ordered for the XR650L because RMATV didn't list the stock 14 for our bikes. My gearing is 14/47.

However, I now see they offer a Renthal stock replacement 14 tooth for 21.99. Huh. They didn't have that a month ago.

And to clear up some of the other confusioni: A month ago, RMATV listed the PrimaryDrive front sprocket for the 09 KLX250 in 11/12/13 tooth sizes, but not the stock 14. NOW, they do not list the PrimaryDrive front sprocket for the KLX.

RMATV does not list a 13-tooth countershaft sprocket for the '09 at the moment.

MotorcycleSuperstore lists the AFAM 13-tooth for the XR650L as unavailable at the moment.

Very interesting. Apparently everybody bought 13-tooths at the same time LOL

I hope that cleared some things up, sorry if I added to the confusion.

ok so the final answer for cs sprocket is klx 07 or xr650l (currently out of stock everywhere)...
